Claims Corner: I Didn’t Think I Had Coverage

In every issue of the Business Insurance Report, we have a special feature called "Claims Corner." In our recent Fall/Winter newsletter, we talk about a specific situation in which a client reported a loss to one of his outbuildings due to snow load.

The issue came up during a renewal meeting with his account executive. The client wanted to know if the building was insured and if coverage was available for this type of scenario.

The account executive confirmed that the building was on the property schedule, and that yes, coverage was in place. The claim was reported to the insurance company with the pertinent details, and a cheque for $75,000 was issued to our grateful client.

Many insured business owners are unaware of the scope of coverage provided by their policy (ies). I always recommend developing a strong relationship with your broker. That way, if any claims or coverage questions arise, placing a call to that broker can pay huge dividends.
